Engr. Rommel “FRMG POINTER” Pilot Ronquillo is a distinguished civil engineer, an astute leader, and a dedicated public servant whose journey from a small town in San Juan, Ilocos Sur to international recognition is nothing short of extraordinary. Often referred to as the “SILENT ASSASINS” or “The SILENCER” for his strategic prowess and impactful contributions, his life story is a testament to resilience, intelligence, and unwavering commitment.
Born to a modest family in San Juan, Ilocos Sur, Rommel’s early life was marked by hard work and a thirst for knowledge. His academic journey began at the University of Northern Philippines (UNP), where he pursued a degree in civil engineering. From the very beginning, he exhibited exceptional leadership qualities, steering various organizations throughout his college years. As the President of the Engineering Department Students Association (EDSA) and the Emerging Leaders club, he was a beacon of inspiration for his peers and a catalyst for positive change within the student body.
His remarkable leadership acumen earned him the accolade of being one of the Top Ten Most Outstanding Student Leaders, an honor that reflects his commitment to excellence and community service. As the Vice President of the University Student Council for a university housing 20,000 students, Rommel proved his capability to lead and advocate for the welfare of his fellow students.
After graduating and successfully passing the Licensure Examination for Civil Engineers, Rommel began his career in the construction sector, gaining practical experience and honing his skills. Recognized for his talent and dedication, he was invited by the University President to work at the UNP Infrastructure Office as a Civil Engineer while also taking on the role of a professor, teaching Physics and Higher Engineering subjects. His passion for education and nurturing young minds became a defining aspect of his professional identity.
In a pivotal moment in his career, Rommel was appointed as the Executive Assistant to the Municipal Mayor of San Juan, Bernard D. Sarmiento, where he prioritized public service for eight years, solidifying his reputation as a committed public servant. His quest for professional alignment motivated him to seek a position in the Ilocos Sur First Engineering Department at the Department of Public Works and Highways, where he made significant contributions over the course of another eight years.
FRMG POINTER’s expertise took him beyond the Philippines when he was assigned as a Project Engineer in Portugal. However, the pull of family and the familiar comforts of home led him to Spain, where he embraced life as an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW). His journey is marked by the belief that “An ounce of loyalty is worth a pound of cleverness,” illustrating his understanding that integrity and dedication often outshine mere intellect in the pursuit of success.
Currently, FRMG POINTER serves as the Overseas Executive Council President and Deputy Secretary General of PGBI (Philippine GUARDIANS Brotherhood, Inc.). In these roles, he continues to influence and lead with a vision dedicated to the welfare of his community and profession. His reputation as the “Silent Assassin” symbolizes his methodical approach to complex challenges, paired with decisive action and impactful outcomes.
