Engr. Melliardine “GS MEL” G. Gamet, PEE
Engr. Melliardine “GS MEL” G. Gamet is a distinguished electrical engineer from Sampaloc, Manila, Philippines. At the age of six, he moved with his family to Batac, Ilocos Norte, igniting his passion for learning and shaping his academic journey. Throughout his schooling, he consistently earned top honors, graduating with the highest distinction.
Engr. Gamet distinguished himself by excelling in both the University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT) and the National College Entrance Examination (NCEE). He initiated his academic journey at the Philippine Military Academy but later withdrew and encountered challenges while studying at Mapúa University. Eventually, he transferred to FEATI University, where he flourished academically, earning both an Associate degree and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with high honors.
His dedication to the field of electrical engineering was further showcased by successfully passing the Master Electrician (ME) and Assistant Electrical Engineering (AEE) licensure exams in 1984 and 1986, respectively. Engr. Gamet holds three licenses—Master Electrician (ME, 1983), Assistant Electrical Engineer (Asst EE, 1986), and Associate in Electrical Engineering (Asso. EE, 1989)—all of which were later consolidated into a single license as a Registered Electrical Engineer (REE). This achievement motivated him to strive for even greater recognition, culminating in the attainment of the Professional Electrical Engineer (PEE) license in 1999, where he achieved an impressive score of 83.6%.
In 1998, Engr. Gamet was elected as a Board Director of the IIEE-ERCSA, serving in this capacity until 1999 before relocating to Jeddah. There, he held the roles of Vice President for External Affairs and Vice President for Internal Affairs over the next three years, ultimately becoming the President of the IIEE-WRCSA. Additionally, he has been an active member of the IIEE Committees for the Philippine Electrical Code (PEC-1, PEC-2, and PEC-3) since 2017, contributing his expertise and leadership to the organization.
Engr. Gamet began his professional career at the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) in 1986. He later moved to Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines and briefly worked with San Miguel Brewery before starting an international career. In 1989, he relocated to Saudi Arabia as an Electrical Design Engineer, where his expertise attracted the attention of Saudi Aramco, leading to successful projects across various departments.
In April 2000, Mel returned to Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, with the intent of organizing the first PGBI chapter in the region. Utilizing his knowledge and dedication, he launched the inaugural chapter in Al Khobar, initially naming it the Al-Khobar Chapter. After relocating to Jeddah on May 1, 2000, he rebranded the chapter as the Red Sea Chapter. Under his leadership, the Red Sea Chapter grew to become the largest overseas chapter outside the Philippines, overseeing eight affiliated chapters and attracting a diverse membership, including Undersecretary Jesus “FRMG GARY” Domingo, Consul General Mary Jane Domingo-Dingal in Jeddah, and former Social Welfare Officer Atty. Gacutan.
FRMG MEL rose to prominence when he was appointed Overseas Representative during the 12th National Convention in Batangas, following a recommendation from Atty. Arthur “FRMG COMET” Abudiente. He served as a NEC member from 2012 to 2018 and later succeeded by defeating Atty. Rex Alvin “FRMG ARAB” Bilagot in an election last June 02, 2018 during the 16th National Convention at Baler, Aurora Province as National President/Chairman and assumed office on September 21, 2018 after taking his Oath before Philippine Ambassador to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Excellency Adnan Alonto at Triple M Hotel in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
Engr. Melliardine “GS MEL” G. Gamet will be remembered for his unwavering principles and steadfast resolve. He was a fierce defender of the PGBI organization, dedicated to protecting it against any attempts to undermine its integrity. His career and contributions demonstrate resilience, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to excellence, establishing him as a respected leader in electrical engineering and a mentor for future generations.
As National President/Chairman of the PGBI organization, GS MEL implemented significant changes aimed at eliminating various forms of corruption and reducing bureaucratic red tape in document processing and membership matters. He advocated for comprehensive education for leaders and members while digitizing forms and documentation to streamline processes.
Additionally, he oversaw the meticulous submission of PGBI SEC reportorial documents, ensuring that no details were overlooked. He championed reforms that led to the evolution of the PGBI logo, aligning it more closely with the organization’s core values. GS MEL was re-elected for a second term on July 27, 2022, during the 18th National Convention in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental. His establishment of essential national websites also provided a platform for other groups, with hundreds of his published articles available at https://www.pgbiguardiansonline.net/.
